The Town of Hvar

THE TOWN OF HVAR is situated on the western part of the identically named Central-Mediterranean island located north of the island of Korčula. The town of Hvar is accessible by a regular quick catamaran route from the town of Korčula in about an hour and a half, while the catamaran timetable allows the possibility of whole day outlets. Surrounding the renowned Hvar town square and dominated by the cathedral of St. Steven are a series of town palaces competing amongst each other by their beauty and elegance, the town tribunal, and the building Arsenal – the archives for the Hvar galleries from the 16th century above which has been built one of Europe’s oldest theatres. Somewhat further along the coast the important Franciscan monastery and church from the 15th century, rich in valuable art works can be found.
