Orebić
OREBIĆ is a place on the Peljašac peninsula located 15 minutes from the town of Korčula via ferry through the Pelješac Channel. Once a famous settlement giving rise to many captains and sailors whose baroque houses and large gardens abundant in flowers and exotic trees tracing the length of the foreshores, these days attract many visitors by its beauty and importance. Centre has a church Helper of Christians dating back to the 19th century while nearby on the foreshores, is the renowned maritime museum exhibiting a large number of model ships, yacht paintings, geographical maps and maritime accessories. Close to Orebić on the cliff above the sea and in the dense pine forests is the Franciscan monastery and church of Our Lady of Angels from the 15th century, a lookout and the “captains’” graveyard. On the hill above Orebić amongst the centuries old cypresses is the church of Our Lady of Karmen.
