Lumbarda is a village on the eastern cape of the wooded island of Korčula, close to the beautiful city of Korcula itself.
In the past Lumbarda provided a country retreat for the bishops and nobility of Korcula. Today it is a rural paradise. The landscape is picturesque and unspoiled, with its crystal clear sea, sheltered coves in the indented coastline, sandy beaches rare on the Adriatic. Gentle hills with shady olive groves, and a valley covered in vineyards that grow excellent wines from grapes only found here.
The air is full of Mediterranean scents - of flowers and herbs, pines and sea salt - and the cries of sea-gulls and the lapping of waves in the summer breeze. Above all we have abundant sunshine to refresh body and spirit.
Lumbarda has a rich history dating back more than two thousand years and well preserved traditional customs. Its 1200 hospitable inhabitants have been involved in winemaking, fishing and stonemasonry for centuries. Today they are also hosts to many guests who seek a summer of secure and peaceful relaxation.
Bathers, sailors and surfers are attracted to the sandy beaches and archipelagos of the twenty or so small islands offshore close to Lumbarda, painters by the palette of turquoise sea, white sands and rock, dark green pines and the silver-green of aloe. Gourmands enjoy the local specialties prepared from freshly caught sea food and the produce of Lumbarda gardens. Wine lovers come from afar to Lumbarda to taste our Grk, the famous white wine from the native grape of the same name.
Guests can obtain information on customs and songs, crafts and artists, cuisines and local wines from the “Lumbarda summer programme”, which includes notices for the performances and events that make the evenings spent in Lumbarda unforgettable.
